The Perfect Gift for the Val Who Has Everything

I let time get away from me today. Funny how that happens when you're baking two cakes, and washing dishes from the previous evening's Chex Mix creation, and wrapping gifts, and attending a holiday get-together from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Saturday all I have to do is bake another cake, make a pie, whip up some vegetable dip, churn out a batch of potato salad, and devil over a dozen eggs. Oh, and finish wrapping presents. After I dash out for a couple of last-minute items. Then attend a Christmas Eve bash at my sister's house.

We are having a sandwich Christmas this year. My mom is our hostess. No need for her to try to prepare a big spread after church. The kids always want to rush through the meal anyway. Not that they're tiny tots anymore. But they don't appreciate a lavish banquet the likes of Mr. Bumble's in the movie Oliver! Food, glorious food, indeed. They would be just as happy with a single bowl of gruel if it meant we could get to present-opening and game-playing faster.

I am asking Santa for a few more hours in a day. He doesn't even have to wrap them.

Here's hoping that a fairy sneaks into your house while you're sleeping and does all the cooking and wrapping and baking you need to do.

Have a marvelous holiday, Val. And all that chex mix prep had better not have damaged your wrists--we look forward to your posts too much.

Merry Christmas!

Hey you happy cooker, you have a few days to recover, sleep late, and meditate so you don't have to medicate. Sandwiches here too. Merry Christmas.

After waking up early to make my famous Campell's green bean casserole, I had lunch to look forward to with the maternal side of the family. It was great. I ate half the casserole as predicted. Now I have two hours to digest, i.e. nap, before the paternal side descends on my household. They have only one speed: bat out of hell. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow just so I can rest.

Sioux,
No fairy yet. Plus, I had to make a side trip to town for some last-minute items. BUT...I got a parking space only two up from the handicapped slots, I found everything on my list, and I was only behind one person at the checkout, with the old friendly bottle-black-haired checker. My good karma has enveloped me today. So far.

My wrists are still in good shape, despite a heavy bout of whisking this morning, creating vegetable dip and a pudding pie. I can't speak for them after an evening of conveying food from my sister's counter to my mouth. Good thing I'm blogging now.

Linda,
Gosh! I feel like Sue Anne Niven, the Happy Homemaker. Except I don't have my own TV show (yet) and I don't want to get my hooks into Lou Grant.

Hopefully, I won't sleep too much later. I arose this morning at the crack of 8:00.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Santa will be thinking of you all, snug in your beds while he is laying out the gifts in the wee hours.

Bailey,
You mean the Campbell's Mushroom Soup, canned Durkee French Fried Onions casserole? I've never been brave enough to taste it, but it seems to be a required holiday dish. It's everywhere.

And now for the important question: will you be eating the other half of your casserole with the speedy paternals?
